Homelessness rarely has a single cause, and it rarely has a single solution. Southeast Healthcare has operated homeless services in central Ohio for years, built around the idea that stable housing and stable health tend to move together.
What Friends of the Homeless offers
Friends of the Homeless Men’s Emergency Shelter provides a safe place to stay along with connections to the broader support system a person needs to move toward stability, including medical care, behavioral health support, and case management. It operates alongside other Southeast programs, such as Bridge to Success, the FOH Community Garden, and Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH).
Why housing and healthcare are connected
It is difficult to manage a chronic illness, keep up with medications, or attend regular counseling sessions without stable housing. At the same time, unmanaged health conditions can make it harder to hold a job or maintain housing once it is found. Southeast’s Homeless Services programs are designed around that connection, pairing shelter and outreach with access to our Primary Care, Behavioral Health, and Vocational Services.
How the community can help
Southeast relies on community support to sustain these programs, whether through volunteering, in-kind donations, or financial contributions through our Donate page. If you or someone you know needs help finding shelter, food, or other basic needs in the Columbus area, our find help tool can connect you with local resources by zip code.
